 Work With Me

KEYNOTE SPEAKER AND EDUCATOR

I’m an experienced keynote speaker and educator on issues including:

-immigrant rights, language justice, and social justice

-memoir writing and responsible storytelling

-trauma, resiliency and burnout, particularly in language workers and nonprofit workers

-journaling, the writing life, and creating consistent practices for creative fulfillment

I’ve lectured at various universities including Yale and Harvard Divinity School, and done presentations and workshops at nonprofits, grade schools, law firms and more.

WRITER

I’m an award-winning writer working in the fields of reportage, essays, editorials and criticism. You can get an idea of the full breadth of my coverage and interests by looking at my portfolio or my newsletter archive, but I’ve written extensively on:

-immigration policy, especially the people trapped within our immigration system

-translation theory and practice

-religion, literature, culture and their intersections

-the environment and the built and material worlds around us

TRANSLATOR & LANGUAGE JUSTICE CONSULTANT

I’m available to translate written materials between English and Spanish, or to consult with your organization on how to robustly incorporate multiple languages into your communications and workflow.

As a translator, I work with texts both literary and technical. You can see my previous published work by looking at my translation portfolio, but the bulk of my experience comes in translating public-facing materials for immigration advocacy organizations.

I’ve also helped organizations come up with strategies to reach out to audiences across languages, prioritize translation, and establish interpretation practices.

AUTHENTICITY READER

I have over 10 years of experience in helping writers across age groups, genres, and styles write authentic multifaceted characters with backgrounds different than their own.

I’m comfortable reading around issues of Latinidad, religion (particularly Catholicism and Evangelical culture), LGBTQ identity, and questions of immigration, particularly where they overlap with legal issues.

Finally, I’m also specialized in reading ensemble casts, particularly in fantasy settings with real-world counterparts.
